Your Ultimate Guide to This Summer’s Beauty Trends
All the sunny pedicure colors, extra-cool haircuts, and beachy fragrances you need to know about.
This week—because the news cycle is decidedly focused outside of the beauty industry and I’m bogged down ahead of a big editorial package, launching next Tuesday—I’m passing the Substack over to my colleague for a round up of all the summer beauty trends she and her team of writers have reported on so far this year. Enjoy!

Hi!
I’m Jesa, a senior editor at Allure and the brand’s resident trend forecaster. What does “trend” mean in 2025, when fads seem to fizzle out as quickly as they emerge? Well, my job involves working with writers, manicurists, makeup artists, hairstylists, colorists, perfumers, and product developers—hold on, I need to catch my breath—to bring you the looks and products they’re seeing most often (and finding joy in) as part of their beauty-focused day. The goal is to dig through all the For You Page chaos to bring you inspiration that is realistic for everyday people—and enough of it to last the entire season.
The summer of 2025 is all about feeling lighter. Some are taking that literally, opting for airier garments or chopping layers into short bobs. Others are prioritizing self-care—an attempt to offset (but not ignore) everything in the world that might be making them feel heavy with activities they enjoy. We at Allure found that this season’s beauty trends reflect that sentiment.
As I reported on trending nail polish colors, the manicurists I called up said there’s an overarching desire for simplicity. Many of their clients are asking for muted colors and jelly or milky textures. But that doesn’t mean that the nail art trends of the season are low-impact. Sophia Panych makes the case for serotonin-boosting designs, like 3D art (think: tropical flowers) and summery motifs (like seashell-inspired tips).
You guys are also apparently super into feet because our pedicure polish story has been, by far, the most-read of the summer trend roundups so far. “Succession has been off the air for almost two years now, but the words of Kendall Roy will ring eternal: ‘Sails out, nails out!’” reporter Marianne Mychaskiw writes.
If nails aren’t your thing, perhaps you’re looking for a new haircut. This season’s hair trends (curated by Leah Prinzivalli) will give you a menu of bobs, bangs, and butterfly layers. Says Prinzivalli, “[This season’s trends] are about letting your red dye job fade, your bob grow out, and your hair part on its favorite side. They’re about relaxing and enjoying—the way summer should be.”
